ICS Service Learning and Internship Programs.

The International College of Seville (ICS) recognizes the increasing importance of participating in such social services and would like to improve on the access to community work that we already have been providing to our students on an informal basis for some years. At the present time, we are implementing two specific types of Community Service Learning:

Community Service.

We ask students to fill out an application form. We normally talk and visit with the NGO, introduce our students to the staff members and check with the NGO every two weeks to verify the progress of our students. We ask the students to write a ten-page report on the work they have developed and ask the NGO for a certification of compliance at the end of the community service period. Students could also receive credit for the work done.

Prerequisites: 18 years old, an Intermediate level of Spanish completed and a compromise to work with them a minimum of six months.

Flexible Voluntary Work.

There is no application process as such. Students simply apply through us to work with local NGOs for as many hours as the wish to register.

Practical example: A week after classes start and all students have final class schedules we contact the NGO to arrange a meeting here at the ICS. They are informed of what's expected from them and establish a weekly schedule for all interested students. They are accompanied to the Children's Hospital and shown the rooms in which they would work.

Internships.

Starting this semester, the University of Seville offers the possibility of offering internships to all students taking classes at the University of Seville.

The participation in Internships is framed by currently existing Agreements between the University of Seville and local companies or institutions. The Faculty of Philology supervises this area of action through a designated tutor.

Upon completion of the period of Internship, the University of Seville, together with the Company or Institution concerned, will issue each student with a Certificate specifying the level of training achieved and the duration of the period involved.
